Lera Boroditsky
"How Language Shapes Thought" was given on October 26, 2010 in San Fransico with Stanford cognitive scientist Lera Boroditsky who has re-invigorated this long standing debate using data from experiments done around the world, from China, to Indonesia, Israel, & Aboriginal Australia. "There are some cross linguistic differences that are not just a matter of degree that one group does it more or less this way or another way. There are qualitatively different ways of organizing the world that people have. And for me, this is a very exciting thing of discovering these other ways of organizing the world, other ways you could see the world. Its right there & its almost like you get to inhabit another parallel universe by discovering a new way to see the world."
